sad songs

A friend of mine was over, and I was playing some vinyl albums he brought.

After I played Jerry Jeff Walker's song "Stoney," my buddy said that song made him cry every time he heard it. And damned if he wasn't teared up.

One song that especially moves me is Loudon Wainwright III's "Thanksgiving" -
at the end, when he is dreaming, in an after-turkey-dinner nap, that he and his sister, as kids, are lying on the lawn alongside their parents, looking up at the night sky.

The lyric "nothing bad has happened yet" is what gets me. Every time.
